Hear Your Writing and Catch What Your Eyes Miss
Reading your text aloud is one of the best editing techniques — awkward phrasing, missing words, and rhythm problems become obvious when you hear them. This tool does the reading for you, using the speech synthesis engine built into your browser. Paste your draft, pick a voice, and listen. You will catch errors you would never spot by reading silently.
Choosing the Right Voice and Speed
For proofreading, a slightly slower rate (0.8x) helps you follow along and catch mistakes. For comprehension checks — testing whether your text makes sense to a listener — normal speed (1.0x) simulates a real reading experience. For skimming long texts, 1.5x to 2.0x lets you scan quickly. Match the voice language to your text language for proper pronunciation.
Browser Compatibility
The Web Speech API is supported in Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Firefox. Voice selection varies by browser and operating system. Chrome on desktop typically offers the widest selection. Mobile browsers may have fewer voices but still work reliably. If no voices appear, your browser may not support the Speech Synthesis API.
Privacy
The tool calls your browser's built-in speech engine. Most browsers process this locally, though some may route text through cloud services for higher-quality voices. The tool itself does not transmit your text anywhere.
